I have changed no doubt hundreds of u-joints and the ones on the Toyotas seem to me to be a major pain .

Because the Yokes and the drive shaft ears are not flat . I had thought of having a special block made up to use with the press to allow the parts to be pressed in a straighter line.

The problem I keep having is the caps keep shifting off the vertical just enough to start digging into the side of the flange. I have tried shims of different size just more to try and keep lined up

At this point I am thinking $200.00 for a new drive shaft is not that expensive . In the morning I am calling the Toyota dealer to see if the Special Service tool for this can still be had .

HEll they are easy to remove a BFHammer and a decent size punch or drift has worked for me when removing them...Then use a good bench vise to reinstall the new ones I've done this at least 12 times in the different Toyota's that I've owned
