Turn 3 4runners into 1
#21
Thanks. It’s many time constraints. Working full time having a family and doing the reserves takes about 99 percent of my time so when I get a full day off I try to ER as much done as I can. I really want to get it at least running and driving. Then I can work on little things and make it better. The 93 has tabk doesn’t mount up to the stock location but it fits and it’s an easy fix, just need to redrill the hole in the tank and it will mount up to the 88 frame. Figured out the injector is what is making the knocking noise and causing the fuel starvation issue. Going to replace the injectors with the ones off the 93 and rewire the harness for the 93 injector connnectors. Hopefully by next week it will be running and driving. I’ll post more pictures and hopefully a video soon.

Turns out the injectors where bad. It revs up now. But either has a loose cam cap or something is loose in the clutch or tranny. Still trying to figure out where the knocking noise is coming from. Had to modify 93 injectors and TPS to work with the old wiring. Hopefully it’s not a rod knock but if it is I’ll have to start on the 3.4 turbo motor I’m building to put in it. That’s one way to move the project along.

Picked up another 3.4 complete for 150 bucks. Guy said it needs a head job so I’ll tear it down and see what it needs. But once I get the firewall repainted ill start on building the 3.4 turbo motor I want to put back into the 88. Then basically start from the front and move back fixing the things I want to fix and turn this rough 88 into a nice looking mug bogger.

Well almost have the new 3.4 put back together. Put LCE head studs on the block. Painted the block, and now rebuilding the heads. I’ll have pictures once the heads are one.

Update
stripped the interior to fix some rust issues. Finishing up the rust repair on the body. 3.4 is coming together nicely. Working in doing the f250 rear tank swap once the tank comes in.

Got the new 89 running today. But it would only run on break cleaner. Pulled the fuel pump and found some lovely rust and also the fuel line was disconnected at the fuel filter and that was also missing. Going to drain the tank and put an extra fuel pump I have laying around in it and see if that fixes it. Also bought a stud welder dent puller and going to start pulling the roof and A pillar. Already got the fender back to semi straight. So far there’s hope this girl will once again be in the road. Definitely sooner than the 88. Waiting for my crx turbo kit and wiring harness to put it together. Updates to come.
