Hey everyone. I have a 87 turbo 4runner auto of course.
Im looking into doing a 5 speed swap. From the research ive done is it true that the only transmission that will fit it is the r151?
Is that the transmission off the 3.0 v6?

R151 = the turbo 5-speed, R150 = V6 5 speed.

Major differences are the 151 has the bell housing that bolts to a 22R block and the output that bolts to a gear driven t-case. The R150 bellhousing mates up to the V6 block and the t-case is set up for a chain driven case. A W56 transmission would also bolt up, not quite as strong as the R151 but more common:

So if i found a 4runner or pickup with the w56 I would be able to make the swap without any problems?
No I need any wiring off the donor vehicle?

 

Should swap over, would need the transmission and transfer case (R151F or W56 - no difference). May need the connector and wiring for the 4WD switch in the t-case and the reverse switch in the transmission.

From what Ive read you MAY also need to find another ECU. (not sure though). I would love to a 5 speed swap in my rte! But it will have to wait
