Truck starts but afternoon it warms up and turned off it doesn't want to start up

Strong smell after warm starts
ok. that indicates something different than just loss of fuel pressure. you might not even be losing pressure, but you'd need a gauge to know that.
mine works using the clutch out first, then in method, because the anti backflow check valve in the fuel pump doesn't work. all other parts of the fuel system work fine, as does my ignition and starting circuits. i believe what happens in mine is that without the residual fuel pressure available during warm starts, the system needs a moment to overcome minor vaporization within the fuel rail, and the method allows this to happen prior to engaging the starter, thus eliminating long, grinding startups. for cold starts, there is no vapor pressure to overcome, so the residual fuel in the rail at low pressure is enough to supply the injectors and the cold start injector with a normal "clutch pedal down" and key to "start" procedure.
i KNOW that the rail loses pressure because i have a permanent fuel pressure gauge attached at the union bolt at the cold start injector hard line.
do you smell a strong gasoline odor during or right after warm starts?

next time for a warm start, prior to trying to start, pull the vacuum line off of the FPR (fuel pressure regulator), and let us know whether the line is full of gasoline.
