Truck dying when warm and brakes applied... And foil and copper around exhaust??
I have a 1990 4runner 3.0 V6 and when its cold it runs just fine.
BUT: When it warms up
and i've been driving it a little while, is when the problem starts.
When i come to a STOP sign or STOP light my RPM's drop down to about 500 and stay for a few seconds then quickly drop to about 100-200 and shoot back up to about 500. (<-- Takes about a second to do this) After it does that a couple times it will just give up and die.
Then i have to start it up and give it some gas to stay on. So what i do is when coming up to a STOP i put the truck in Neutral that way it stays at about 800 Rpm's. And then once the light changes i put it in drive and go on my way. Could this be a vacuum leak??? I have 2 hoses that come from the bottom of my power steering up and arent connected to nothing because i dont know where to put them. Here is a pik...

PS: Any idea what this copper tubing is around my exhaust pipe???

Is this foil??? Or a patch???

WOW. i've never seen a tin foil job like that. someone really did a number on that exaust. but those two vacuum lines do connect to the intake chamber, torwards the firewall side there are two vacuum fittings that are forked, one large and one small on each, the PS lines go on the smaller fittings. one fitting is acctually on the chamber its self and the other one appears to go underneath it.

the copper tubes go to nothing. thy are just there. and i dont think its flowmasters. it was like that when i bought the truck. i was gonna take it off but it might be a "patch" for a hole in my exhaust..

I'd pull that foil off if i were you, and then fix your exhaust..

Two hose clamps, and some thin gauge stainless steel ...
Cut the stainless with some tin-snips, or whatever, curl it around the xhaust, and clamp it on..

the vacuum leak im pretty sure are those 2 hoses. im thinking. i also just found out that one of my fuel injectors is leaking. gotta get that replaced soon before i start a fire:/ Dont want that

yeah but remember the leak isn't comming from the hoses but the fittings they go to, i can't find anything in the FSM about those hoses. i put a vacuum gauge on mine and when i had stock cams the vacuum pressure at idle was 18-20 hg.in.

nevermind. it cant be those hoses. it sounds like its under my TB because the fittings that the hoses go to are capped off by another hose being "u"'d to the inserts. i just have to get new hoses and connect them. as for the vacuum leak i gotta look harder when i replace that injector or those injectors..

yes they do. i had half a tank of gas yesterday went about for a 30 minute drive. now im barely making it in my driveway,, i just replaced an injector o ring this past weekend. im thinking the mechanic that worked on it didnt see the other one leaking. Time to find a new one. :/ and the smileys are pretty intense..
