Hey from Austin.

My first guess is that the fuel system is losing pressure. There are two terminals on the diagnostic block you can jumper to get the fuel pump to run before the car has started. (Search for it in these forums.) If you jumper it and then it starts immediately, you know you've either got a fuel leak to the outside (which you could smell), or else your fuel pressure regulator is leaking fuel back to the tank. And it's a cheap and easy diagnostic, it'll cost you a paper clip.

Actually just did this yesterday. Jumper the 'FP' (fuel pump) and 'B+' (battery +) together to get the fuel pump to run. You'll be able to hear it quietly buzzing by the rear wheels.

Don't forget to post back with the results!

Prob. not the fuel pump you're hearing, if you mean the car's not running when you hear it. The fuel pump is switched on in the AFM, which needs to be open a minimal amount (i.e. car is running) before the contacts close.

My truck makes a whirring noise from the rear ABS for a moment after turning the ign. on. That's in the front though; fuel pump is in back.
