Transfer case part?

Hi everybody. Please see the attached jpg.

This pic isn't from my truck, but I have the exact same doohickey hanging off mine... can anybody tell me what the part outlined by the red box is?! Looks like a bumpstop for a skidplate that isn't there... even though there is the usual one in place.

Can I take this part off? Do I want to? What does it doooooooo?

Just take it off. It is either a torque snubber or (I think I was told once) a counter balance to help with vibrations or something..

I have taken them off all my trucks and never noticed anything.

I had a feeling it was something to do with vibration... but let's be honest, with the size tires everybody around here is running, I doubt anyone notices the reduction! Thanks for the input!

Yea, its a counter weight. I haven't had one of those on mine and haven't any weird vibes from my tacoma in the 2 years I've owned it.
