Does anyone know if you can buy a pan gasket for the transfer case pan? I took it down to inspect, but appears that it might just require a FIPG sealant.
But mortals like us buy 271 in tubes of 0.20 ounces, so enough for a pan gasket will add up. I've used RTV with great success.
Toyota FIPG is very-fast-setting RTV. Important if you're charging by the hour and need to get that vehicle out of the bay, and you're practiced enough to always get it right the first time. But that's not me. I like having a little more "open-time" so that I can get it positioned correctly, and I can wait 24 hours for the regular RTV to set before starting the engine. (Note that anaerobic sealants, like threadlockers, have an almost infinite open-time. They set up (and quickly) only once you get the part assembled.) Your choice.

Interesting...thanks for the links. I just double checked the manual and it suggests the TB 1324 for the threads on the three bolts at the front of the transfer case pan, but calls for TB 1281 for the actual pan gasket material (TOYOTA FIPG TRANS (ORANGE). Makes sense. You wouldn't want to use a threadlocker for a gasket.
Hmmm...yeah, the THREEBOND is tough to find. I'll likely try a more available Permatex Auto Transmission sealer (P/N 81180). I did find a decent rubber molded gasket for the transmission pan (much larger area to pipe FIPG onto) that I'm going to try too.
Yeah, it's worth noting here to use the FIPG TRANS (ORANGE), not the standard Toyota FIPG BLACK. There are two BLACK FIPG's from Toyota. One for oil plans (Oil) and one for coolant.
