Trans. leaking

hey guys I have a '87 with a 22r and it seems to be leaking from the top of the trans around the area of the stick shift. i sprayed it off a couple times with degreaser this evening so it will be cleaner when i get under there tomorrow. My question is, that the heck is up there that can be leaking? It has never leaked in the 24 years my step dad had it, now i have it and it leaks.... WTF

Pull the shift boot, you'll be able to track it down if you can see from up top..

I did, but the drivetrain is all wet and its dark out. If it is the gasket is that something they sell at autozone or is it off to the stealership for me?

Go to the dealership, it's like 5 bucks, I think you'll need two though. Just ask to look at thre diagram

I needed two for my Tacoma.

LOL.

I meant, on the transmission shift plate retainer, mine uses 2 gaskets. One on top of a little teeny aluminum plate, and one on the bottom. The gaskets sandwich the aluminum plate and then it all gets bolted in between the trans and the shift plate.
That's why I said look at the diagram that the parts guy looks at.
