trans kicking out of 4th.

I have a 91 22re, 5 speed, 4x4 pickup and it all of a sudden don't want to shift into 4th and if it does it will kick back out soon after. Im pretty sure my trans is about to implode but the whole truck is about shot so I wasn't wanting to replace the trans unless I have to. Any ideas?

I have heard about the shift bushing causing it to kick out of gear and was hoping that might be it but didn't think that caused it to not go into gear.

The synchromesh on 4th gear is shot. It can be fixed without ditching the whole tranny, but it could cost a pretty penny compared to what the truck's worth. Junk yard tranny may be your answer.

Hell that's what I have been doing. 3-5 is a stretch with the amount of horsepower that a wore out 22re produces. Looks like im going to get to see how that works in the snow today and tomorrow.
