Hey Chef! What all did you do to your head? And don't worry I understand no matter what I do to the motor its still basically a little tractor motor so to speak. haha but I do want to get the most out of it I can because I plan to stick with the 22re instead of a swap. I just love these little motors and for what they are they are very capable especially for what I need it to do. I plan on going with a header but that will be a little while down the road due to money and I can't really decide on a tri-y ore lce. I think I will also fab or buy me an offroad bumper for the front to replace my mangled one before I go with the header. I already have 2.25" out to a flowmaster 40.

My head was mildly ported/polished on the ports, 1MM Oversized Stainless Swirl Polished Valves, Eskinderian Dual Row Racing Valve Springs, Manganese Bronze Guides and Viton Oil Seals, 261 CAM w/an LCE Header Attached to it... On a motor that's 20 over(0.050") with a .10-.10 Crank, Steel Guide kit, New Pumps, 4.30 Gears W/Spartan locked rear..... And a couple other things. (and I'm still looking for an R150 Trans! lol... That way I can swap out to a 1UZ w/out worrying too much about snapping multiple trannies/Mines a W56)

I wouldn't bother with anything other than the CAM and valve job you're doing, bud... It's not really necessary and it'll keep some money freed up for those things you wanna do(it's not cheap to have the head ported/polished or to have the valve seats ground out.... I had a friend do it, so it saved me lots as he didn't charge me extra.) It's cheaper to just buy the whole Stage 2 Head from engnbldr with the cam, ya know? They do them all day, but a guy like your buddy has to take that time to do all that machining of the aluminum... which isn't a HUGE deal, but it takes time and needs to be worth it for his time(where as Ted and Tod crank those out all day long, ya know? ... "Specialty" Work).

One of these days I plan to go all out on the motor like you did and see if i can get above the 150hp mark but right now with me being in college I want to do just mild upgrades. 1) I really don't have that kind of money to spend and 2) I want to keep the reliability with it due to it being my DD. But after I graduate I plan to make it a full blown trail rig; however, that is some time away so I can only dream about it right now. hehe

Haha I wish Chef! I think the mechanic called the machine shop and gave them a kick in the butt saying he needed to move the vehicle Friday morning... It's great having him on my side haha

So they told him they would move it to the front and have it done by the end of the day and deliver it Monday so hopefully I'll be back in my Yota!

Well guys bad news today... the head is not in from the machine shop yet so I'm not getting the truck back today. It'll probably be Wednesday before I get it back because I have classes all day tomorrow so hopefully I'll have a truck and be able to put a video then.

Don't stress it, brudda.... It's VERY common for 'machinists' to go 'long', ya know? In the end, it's usually caused by the 'shop' they are contracted with bringing in a load of 'emergency' crap that has to get done for the dealer, etc.

That just sucks when a plan doesn't come together.
Good things happen to those that wait patiently.

Well, I called my mechanic to check up on the ole yota and I could hear it in the background! He just had put it together and was about to break in the cam, so looks like I'm getting her back finally. haha However it did end up costing me more than I thought but all in all I just want her back. lol

I got the 4runner back today!!! haha I'll put a video up sometime tomorrow if I have time. I would have today but I was too busy hotrodding my new cam haha There is a world of difference, it feels like a completely differen vehicle. And I can't say enough about the guys at engnbldr. Really nice guys and excellent customer service.

P.S. If anybody could tell me how to post videos or a link to how it would be greatly appreciated.

Upload a video to Youtube....

Then, copy the address at the top in the address bar, then come here and click the lil "Insert Image" link at the top of this here box..... (second from the right), and then right click in there and click paste.... Then 'ok' or whatever it says... (Post?) and it will be up to view!

Congratz! Glad it worked out for ya, bud!

I didn't think I'd like mine without the Valence.... but I do. I LOVE them, though, and I think they look great with the right application(More stock rigs). Wow, what a PITA to get off though, ...... the bolts were REALLY frozen on there.(screws?) ...anyway, curious what's next.

Sorry guys my computer is down right now so I'm having a hard time getting on here. But I got a pretty good deal on the bumper so I just went ahead and picked it. I figured I coulda banged on that other bumper for an hour or two and got it close but you still woulda known I straightened it, ya know?

And chef, my thoughts exactly on the grill. lol I guess when it got hit it cracked a little which allowed for it to work as a relief and actually bend, crazy huh?

As far as whats next, I think I'm leaning toward a zuk mod and maybe even bj spacers depending on how froggy i feel. lol but for now I'll be recooperating from the engine cost. I don't think I ever said what actually caused my problem, so here it goes:

The PO had the motor rebuilt BY THE DEALERSHIP, but when they were putting it back together, they put the camshaft in wrong and the valve went down and dented the piston which caused the valve to bend. I just don't understand how Toyota itself could screw up one of the simplest motors it ever produced but thats just my luck.
