toyota emblems

do any of yall know if the toyota emblems on the tailgate are attached with adhesive or if they are just posts that go into the body. i want to do the black pearl emblems but i dont wanna mess with reapplying the adhesive stuff cuz in past experiences it just gets hot and melts and ur emblems start to slide. i have the middle toyota oval, then Toyota SR5 V6. what do yall think?

WHat year and what rig?

84-89 4Runners I can tell you are stick-ons. I would bet that all years are.
The trick to removing them is to flood a little lacquer thinner behind them (DO NOT use MEK or Acetone or anything else - use lacquer thinner) and gently pry them off as the thinner runs behind them and loosens the adhesive. In the body shop we used a small squeeze bottle for this. Then, we just set them on the shelf adhesive side up until time to re-use, then wiped some lacquer thinner on them to reactivate the adhesive. If you are going to paint them or something, better stick them on some wax paper.

yeah.. it does depend on the year and model.

the newer 4runners (Highlanders/rav4/Sequoia).. the emblems such as the "Toyota", "V6/8","SR5".. etc are all adhesive, but the toyota symbol in the middle of the tailgates are both, adhesive and posts. the posts aren't really there to secure the emblem, I think it's more for cetering (and I also think it prevents debadging of the ALMIGHTY TOYOTA symbol)

I bought my Sequoia with the gold package. I'm not a fan of gold emblems, but I knew I was gonna remove it all anyways. My original plan was to purchase the black pearl emblems separately, but I like the look without the emblems, and when I found out the price of the black pearl emblems.. I really started to like it.

I have a friend at the dealer and he hooked me up with a silver Toyota symbol for the rear, and I changed the grill on the front anyways.. so no bling anywhere, except the one symbol on the back and I think it looks good.

I don't think that repainting the emblems will really work that great. I would think that the paint would chip a lot easier.
