Towing with stock 91 4runner

Hey guys, I am going to be picking up a 91 4runner this Saturday and was wondering how well I will be able to tow things with it. I've read that the rear springs are not the greatest. I'll be towing a 400ex atv and a ttr250 dirtbike on a 7'x14' trailer. Will the stock springs be adequate or should I just go ahead and get new ones? If I should get new ones, what ones should I get?

Thanks,

Jared

Welcome to Yotatech, Jared.

This is a topic that's been covered many, many times in depth. If you use the search feature using keywords...springs, towing, saggy bottom/rear, etc....you will see.

Not that anyone isn't willing to discuss it, but there are enough options that it would cover a multi page thread....in which case, there are already many....like I said.

My opinion? I would get the air bags that you can inflate when needed. You'll see in a search there are a few good brand names to go with.

Set you truck up to sit level and has mentioned, use air shocks or bags to level under load.

I have towed many things, including a 12 foot U-haul, packed to the gills, cross country. My 92 v6 handled it like a champ.
Suggestions:
1) Get new rear springs and shocks ... yours are likely fried by now. As mentioned above, many discussions here already
2) Invest in a transmission cooler - you can get a good one for about $100, and it will save you a world of headache and wear. There are some good threads here on that too.
Good luck!

And to make the springs last longer.

Stay in the slow lane, you will be fine. I have had my truck loaded down so much the rear suspension was bottomed out. Was a little slow but it took it and asked for more.
