Towing 87' Xtra Cab
Hi guys,
I purchased a 87' Xtra Cab, and have to go pick it up this weekend (about a 40 hour trek). I plan on using a flat bed trailer, but am wondering how long of a trailer do I need? I haven't seen the truck in person, so I haven't been able to measure how long one of these things are etc.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

I brought my 85 extra cab home on a 16 foot tandem axle trailer. If you go much shorter then 16 foot, you are going to have the bed hanging off the back of the trailer and my have issues getting the truck balanced on the trailer for towing. You might have to make the nose of the trailer carry most of the weight. I would not want to do that. You still need more weight in front of the trailer then the rear or you will get the trailer wig wagging down the highway at faster speeds.
Another option I have done is to pull the rear drive shaft and use a U-Haul tow dolly to cut down on the weight being pulled.
Here you can see how much room I had left.
Day I brought it home.
