tire and power question
it says on the FAQ that the biggest tire you can put on a stock 2gen 4runner is 32X11.5. it says you may have power loss how likely is it that you will get power loss? I was thinking about liftin it but i think i am going to just get tires and don't want to get anything that will reduce the performance any suggestions would be nice

BF Goodrich KO'S great mileage out of them Good in most conditions , but mud is a different story if you want mud traction then BFG KM'S.
Size wise 31 x 10.5 x 15 is where you will see the least amount of negative effects if you don't lift it
if you do lift it you can go all kinds of different directions depending on how hi you lift it then you also need to consider re gearing if you go to big.

BFG A/T K/O look and wear great. I had 32x11.5x15 on stock wheels with 4.56 ratio manual transmission and it was nice, (31" is WAY too small) but the optimal size for daily driver AND wheeling is 33x10.5 and a 4.88 ratio.
this is assuming you have a manual transmission, if it's auto it sucks you should sell it now and get a real truck

you could fit some 33-12.50's under there with little to no problems with rubbing, but if I was you, I'd start out with some 31-10.50's. They won't sacrifice power, or economy like the 33's will. And if you don't like those, the good news is, that tires will wear out eventually...which ironically, is bad news for me, because I can't afford new tires right now.

With a 22RE, 31's and stock 4.11 gears, the engine bogs down off the line and doesn't like to run at 30mph. Its too slow for 3rd gear and too fast for second. If you're going from 28's, you will notice it for sure.
I test drove a bunch of v6 4Runners all with 31's and they all felt a little slow. I then tried a 3vze with 28's and it was a rocket in comparison.

Well, the V6 4Runners are a little on the slow side, but it's like a hot rod compared to the 22RE 4Runners. I've never driven a V6 4RNR with 28's but I can imagine it would have quite a bit more pep than 31's.
