tips on replaceing the heater and ac controls

so tomorrow i plan on replaceing the heater and ac controls on my 87 2x4. i did i search before making a new post but found no good tips or info on doing this.

Im pretty sure ill have to remove the dash cover for the speedo gauges to remove the dash cover to get to the heater controls.

Do i need to pull the duct controls on the dash off first?

Any info or tips would be highly appreciated

Thanks Joe
