timing puzzle

quick question.

when i set the new tps to idle
do i set base timing on the engine first then jump the terminal

or

do i jump the terminal then set the base timing


when will the ecu advance the timing.

are there different steps to doing this

Set TPS first.
Insert jumper wire. (idle should change when doing this)
You are now in base timing mode.
Set engine idle.
Set timing.

You will not be able to do base timing if TPS is not working.
I went thru that last week.
