Well folks, we were right. I ditched work for a couple hours and went to figure out the timing. Sure enough, I clipped the timing light right at the spark plug and without additional shielding the test showed a perfectly timed engine at 10-11 degrees BTDC and no extra or erroneous flashes occurred. Good stuff

I also tested the EGR valve to see if eliminating it would cause the rough idle when cold to go away, it did not change anything.

I tested the cold start injector to see if it was leaking and causing a rich condition (which my plugs are telling me I have) And the CSI was working ok. The stream seemed a little weak, but whatever I'll just get another one soon enough.

So, I'm still at a rough idle when cold... however, I have yet to do a PROPER job of adjusting the TPS and since the idle situation get's a lot worse when slowly moving the TPS, I have a feeling it is related. Thought's on this are welcome

I did the carb spray of a vacuum test and the results seem to say no leaks.

I found that the CSI didn't have a gasket and remembered I was supposed to order one a while ago (this was before the vac test and i temporarily installed an o-ring which IMO is a better design than a flat gasket.
