Timing Chain

I was wondering when you are supposed to replace the timing chain I know belts are apporx 75000 to 100000? When should i replace the timing chain. I have a 22R im pretty sure it doesn't make a difference but i thought id throw it in there.

Belts 60-75k, chains 100k.

It's purely precautionary. Both can last much much longer but, after a certain mileage you just don't know if it'll break.

With the 22R/Es.. the guides like to wear through... so the chain could either be fine (ok guides) or have broken through a guide which cuts their life down... pretty obvious.. metal on metal grinding even with oil is never good.

When a chain/belt breaks, the motor usually doesnt survive. Bent valves, punctured pistons etc..

I've read/heard 130K-160K. No more than 160K unless you're a risk taker
