Timing belt

I have a 1993 pickup sr5 4wd 5 speed, just hit 100000 miles, should I do the timing belt, how hard of a job is it?

The maintenance interval for the timing belt on schedule A ("beat the hell out of it") is 96,000 miles. There is no interval on Schedule B. http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../1maintena.pdf

"Should" you do the timing belt? Somehow, I'm guessing you're not the original owner, so you don't really know much about the history. And even though 100,000 isn't too much for a 22-yr old truck, 22-years take their toll just sitting there.

If it were mine, I'd go through the maintenance schedule and do, well, all of it.

How hard is it? There are more how-to posts on this site for the timing belt than any other job. Do a search, see for yourself.

Thanks and the truck was used all its life as a side vehicle. But I am most likely going to do it

Looking at the mx schedule I had let my 1993 go as it had a pretty easy life. A blown Head gasket at 150,000 miles necessitated some serious work, at which time I replaced timing belt, water pump etc. The timing belt was in quite bad shape, so I would suggest replacing it. As far as the belt goes, the only real issue is getting the crank bolt out. I ended up using a 4' cheater on a 1/2" drive flex bar. You might get it off with an impact wrench. An impact wrench was handy for the cam sprockets as otherwise a counter hold tool may be necessary.

As long as you are in there do the water pump, idlers, tensioner etc. A good kit should have all this stuff in there. After going all the way to pulling the heads, the timing bely looks like chicken soup.
