Tightening 3.0 3vze crankshaft bolt

Tonight I am taking apart my 3vze and will be replacing a whole mess a things, including timing belt kit, water pump, thermostat, cam seals, and crankshaft seal. Now, I have all the required parts and tools to disassemble and reassemble everything excluding a torque wrench to put out the required torque for the crankshaft pulley bolt. I've got a friend that works for Memphis Motor Werks, a well known and respected Import/European mechanic's shop, and he suggests just tightening the bolt as much as I can, in lieu of torquing it to spec. Coming from him, my instinct tells me to just trust his advice and proceed. But then my perfectionist mind tells me to torque it properly. However I have no torque wrench with enough power, nor do I have access to one any time soon without shelling out a huge amount of money. So my question is.. Can I just tighten the crap out of that bolt and be done with it?

Thanks for any help or assistance!

Also.. This site is AWESOME! Been creeping for a while now..

What do you mean by "no torque wrench with enough power"?

You have no torque wrench?

Or it isn't good for measuring 181 ft.lbs. of force?

Give it a couple raps on an impact wrench after it's tight and it won't come loose, been doing them like that for 40 years and I ain't lost one yet.

I'm sorry, I should've better explained that. I have a 75lb torque wrench, so I meant just not high enough rated torque.

you can use an auto parts store torque wrench.
a refundable deposit is all it takes.

a crank pulley holding tool you can make yourself.
i made one from 2" square tubing, some steel pins and a welder.

All right.. I'll try the local NAPA and autozone for that wrench.. Or I may just go at the bolt until it won't tighten any more!

And I actually fabbed up a tool with 2 in barstock and a few bolts and nuts to hold the cam/crankshafts..

Thanks for the information and the help guys! Much appreciated!
