third member skid plate

hey guys you have been extremly helpful with previous questions thanks but heres another one. I was looking thru december 05 issue of "four wheeler" and noticed the third member skid plate for the ford nine inch (page 90) that is awesome and I could really benifit from one of those but like everybody else I own a toyota 91 and was wondering if anybody knows if they make one for the yota. For those of u that dont have a magazine it bolts up to the pinion flange (behind u-joint) and then four bolt up to the bottom of the thirdmember/axle housing to protect the complete bottom of axlehousing, diff and pinion flange. Rocks and deep ruts like to hit my rearend and make it leak and clog up my drain plug bolt. thanks

I was just in this shop in CO, and they had just started having some fabbed up. There was a whole stack of them! Give these guys a call. Lysmachia/Molly uses them for all her stuff.

IMHO, not worth it. The low pinion on the 9" and design of the pinion carrier make it condusive to this type of skid, but the Toy is different. AOR used to sell one (before they were AOR), but really, it just robs clearance.

Yes, diff guards are handy on the kind of axles that have a thin metal cover, but the cast center of the Yota diffs are pretty close to indestructable.

You will never make your diff leak by whacking it on obstacles, and a diff guard will do nothing to keep mud from "clogging" the drain plug ring.
That said, there are many of them on the market, in many different styles, although not many that fit Yotas.
