Red face There's this runner for 400....but has an electrical problem

There is a 86 runner in my area...i have a car...and dont need another...but i've always wanted a 4runner and for 400 dollars it makes me wonder if maybe i should check this one out.

Red 1986 Toyota 4RUNNER for sale. Body in great shape. Has new parts. Ran great before mysterious short, so you will need to tow it. Short possibly has something to do with new fuel pump. 4 cyl. 5 speed manual. 5 cd changer. rollbars. $400 .O.B.O.

that's the ad...i inquired about mileage, rust, and any more details on the short but i was wondering if maybe somebody on here could guess what could be wrong...based on the description. sometimes there are common problems on cars that are eaisly diagnosed and if i could fix this one for a few hundred i'd love it! I.E. the 7m engines are notorious for blown headgaskets...and I havent heard of a 22RE issue thats in lots of trucks but...if there is any hope for this truck that wont cost much i might just buy it and make it my toy.

Buy it. You can make more than 400 if you part it out.

4runnermt? - serious? i guess you're right... i need to see what kind of condition the body, chassis, and engine are in.

I can do my own work...i havent EVER tried electrical but i just did a funn blown headgasket fix on my 1986.5 supra on my own... so...i think i could handle it.

yotaoffroad - thanks, if i go i'll definatly look at that. is it out in the open? i haven't ever looked at a 22r engine bay and i'm hoping with my recent experiance i can find everything with minimal research. and do it without making the owner raise the price on me last minute

Get and see if you can get it running. The worst that can happen is you might learn something. And like 4runnermt said, you can always part it out. I want the roll-bar

i'm still open for ideas.

and the worst that could happen is i get a truck that has a blown engine and have this hunk of metal in my yard, and my dad telling me to get out there and do something about it... plus i'd be down 400 bux for the time being. i dont work yet! lol.... but i've spent more on my radio control hobby for just the stock monster i have... so...eh.. lol

i think i might get it if it doesnt have a ton of miles or wreck/rust issues...

put a non-op lecense on it and make it a nice wheeler or something...

Any more opinions and possible fixes to the vague problem are MORE than welcome. I'll try my best to check all the wiring and look at the fuses just in case they missed that one. but i guess maybe a short would fizz the fuse anyhow. either way this seller sounds like a break-it-just-sell-it kind of person. we'll see. thanks for the help so far!

I'm in california! lol. where did kentucky come from?

thanks for the props on the supra BTW, i love it. minus the BHG issue i had a while back. i have learned SO much just by doing the repair myself and i saved probably....500-600 bucks.

but anyway, how does one efficiently part out a vehicle? would i strip it in categories like body, drivetrain, engine, and electrical? or sell of random parts? i know that supra parts sell well but do 4runner parts sell that well? if the body really is great i might get it even with a bad engine...

i'll be going out there to see it at around 4 or 5 if i get a responce from the person, right after i check here once more. thanks again for the advice!

thanks again for the help. sadly the guy hasnt replied to his one and only listing for contact (email) and the ad has been removed from craigslist. some other toyota guy probably saw it and emailed right off that he'd take it no questions asked. oh well. theres a reason for everything.

Hell I could Use a new Tailgate. I would love a couple doors with a handcrank instead of electric windows. I know a dude out here with a Sami who would die for a chance at the rear axle. You could definatley make some green on the purchase.
