OH yeah, I welded my butt cheeks together heading up to get those tires today. Just about caused a pile up on I5.

Note to self, and to everyone. Go find a country road to practice HARD BRAKING before hitting the freeway! .. I had to stop hard and fast today. I've been keeping 4-5 car length distances between me and other drivers all my life and today it paid off. I had to stop from 65 to nothing in that distance and about rolled the friggen thing after nearly side swiping everything around me.

When you stop hard the weight shifts to the front, the front compresses and as a result the drag link level's out which pushes the pitman arm turning your steering wheel. Yeah... I learned real quick not to correct this. But almost potentially killed me and everyone around me.

Needless to say, every chance i had from then on out i was slamming the brakes hard to train myself how to react.

I'm a helicopter pilot, you train over n over how to react to situations where thinking isn't an option so you train to react not think. Definetly gonna spend some time on some country roads locking the beast up to get comfortable with quick braking.

I suggest ya'll do the same =)

 

thats funny u mention this, the first day i had finished my SAS a lexus brake checked me, i hit the brakes and slid and rear ended it. Messed up the lexus pretty good and put a little scratch on my bumper

 

nice work. i kno what your saying about workin on your truck yourself. can be good or bad. but man that thing looks greeeaaaatttttt!. that is a pretty good lift for 3inch springs

 

added mudflaps last night and installed the front hangar gussets. now im street legal, cops can go to hell! Atleast the ones that harass us offroaders.



They're removeable. I hate mudflaps these are only to keep the truck legal. I plan on finding a pin of sorts to pop in there instead of the bolt. but Lowes didnt have anything so the bolts will do for now.

 

o yes the first time you have to really hammer the brakes down after a SASing is quite the expirence lol if you get use to it you can use it to change lanes on the free way in heavy traffic lol just build a bit of speed and brake hard and next thing you know your in the next lane lol ....... as for your mud flaps i did some what of the same thing only with round tubing, i used 2 1/4in lynch pins on each side to keep them from vibrating and rattleing. dont know if you have a Coastal Farm and Ranch store where your at but thats where i found the lynch pins i used.... the lowes by me doesnt have anything but empty shelfs and people who dont know a screw from a pice of pvc pipeing.

about the braking I don't have any problems with panic braking maybe its my hydraulic assist ram? I don't recall any scary moments before the ram was installed though. I have locked it up on a secluded road behind ft. lewis in my many of test drives.

It did pull to one side after an inner seal blew and glazed my pads. other than that it stops straight everytime.

 

well it stops dead on straight. Just the wheel turns to the left since the angled drag link going to the pitman arm becomes more level and pushes the pitman arm. Just took some getting used to, got it down now =) If you death grip the steering wheel when hard braking the truck will go to the right.

 

Does your buddy realize he mounted his unidirectional tires backwards on the front there?

 

we mounted them like that on purpose.

 

Found a nice lil slope/ditch whatever to see the flex finally. I've flexed it out plenty but never really had a really good hill to do it on. This is the first time I got the wheel to compress 100%.

Need to get bumpstops on tho lol

oh yeah, i built a square front driveline for about 40 bucks. Used a 2wd rear driveline ujoint flange and stuff. That double Cardan (sp) CV ujoint whatever the hell it is had to go.

It vibrates but for wheeling it's perfect! I'm gonna hate the snow this winter tho (on-road driving). Since I wont be able to leave the front locked it when going from from 2-4wd... and doing 30+mph.. sigh

This is the truck when i first rolled it out of the shop.



I rebuilt my stock rear spring packs from a mix of different spring packs =) .. to level the truck (bring the butt up)

Stock Toyota, 2003 Tacoma Rear leaf and overload, all pro short leaf and a leaf from a chevy 63 pack now make up my rear suspension.


*Time for an extended brake line or what? LoL ... meh im gonna extend the hardline-softline mount down. =P

I'll probably pull make some changes to this pack setup when i get another set of springs, nissan 2wd rears .. we'll see. it rides a bit rough for my liking..


*note my driveway slants. It actually does sit ALMOST level =)

I'm happy =) .. I was able to flex it a bit today. Tho no official testing! .. It's stiffer so it forces the front to take more of the flex which is a good thing, keeps the truck more level when you have a front wheel high situation .. ie crawling the driver side tire up on a boulder.. the front compresses.

Rock sliders go on this coming weekend.

hopefully 529 and elockers in the next month.
