Temperature gauge

Hello everyone, new member here. Just bought a 93 Toyota pickup 2wd manuel. (Had to get it towed home) lady I bought it from had it sitting for almost 5 years since it couldn’t pass smog, she didn’t really have a lot of details on the truck but I decided to buy it anyways. I put a new battery and it started right up, I noticed the temperature gauge shoots straight to HOT, even when I turn the key on, it had been sitting all night so there’s no way it can be overheating, I changed the temperature sensor and sender as well and no luck, I checked all wiring and all grounds to make sure everything was connected correctly and it was, I’ve spent countless hours trying to figure out the problem, I pulled the cluster out and checked all wires behind it and replaced the temperature gauge and still no luck. Hoping you guys can help a new member out.

I unplugged the temperature gauge sender before I turned the key on and the gauge still reads hot. I have no clue how to figure this out.

Are you unplugging the correct sender? There are two temp senders, one for the ECU and one for the gauge. Gauge sender is located between cylinders 2 & 3 on the intake manifold for a 22RE, the ECU one is in the front of the intake..

If you did disconnect the correct sender, the next thing I would suspect is that sending wire grounding somewhere between the sender and the gauge. You have a multi-meter or a continuity tester?
