Temp sensor

I am replacing the temp sensor in my 86 22re. The issue I'm having is the temp sensor that is in there is a one wire sensor and the one I just bought is a 2 wire. The truck has a gauge not an idiot light. I went back to the parts stores and they were not much help. They did find a one wire sensor but couldn't tell me if it was for a gauge or just a light.

Does any one have any knowledge on temp sensors?

Thanks
Bru

You are replacing it seems from your post the sending unit for the temperature gauge??The sending unit has one terminal.

I don`t think I ever saw a Toyota with a over temperature light. All I have seen without the Gauge package have a temperature Gauge and Fuel gauge.

The Temp sensor is a different animal and will have a connection with two terminals

Most times the thread is different as well

Either one, the one in the Thermostat housing and the one between cylinders #2 and #3. Both only have one wire. The one between the cylinders goes to the guage. Really not sure what the Thermostat Housing does. Sounds like you got the wrong one. The one between the Thermostat Housing is a 17mm if I recall right.

didn't some of these 22re intake manifolds come with two holes for senders, right next to the head?

Thanks for the help. I was looking at the wrong one. Slowing down and looking at what is where really helps. I saw the sensor in the thermostat housing and hell that was easy...wrong. Thanks!!!
