Anyone have that problem with their tailgate shackles having excessive play so when you move your truck side to side it like makes a annoying metal clanking sound??

anyone know how to improve/fix it? i was thiking of buying a cable like how truck's have them but not sure if they'll work

 

Mine used to do that because the PO stuffed a different bolt in one of the mounts/pivots. I got the oem bolts and was able to snug it down. Not a peep since...


p.s cables SUCK!

 

something else you might be able to do is get some pieces of heat shrink tubing and cut them to fit over the arms to act like a bumper so they don't rattle.

 

Get the replacement plastic clips from Toyota they are designed to stop that rattling.

 

hmm hmm, alright. Il check the bolts to see if their all the same. and yeah, il go to the stealership and buy some clips.

 

mine does it all the time - from factory there were 2 little plastic clip things that kept the shackles pushed to one side so they wouldn't rattle, the clips are broken now but I was thinking of trying to improvise something - maybe glue a rubber pad on or something

 

do these clips go between the two shackles? or on the bolts?
