does anyone know how easyit is to change out the lock of the tailgate of a 2nd gen 4runner . i got a new tailgate and it looks straight forward , was just wondering about the lock sice it controls the window??

 

Id like to know as well. Im getting ready to swap out my beat up bondo tailgate for a straight one but cant figure out how to change the locks

 

I just took the lock out of my '92 4Runner and it was not difficult. First, open the gate, take off the carpet trim and metal plate, then close the latches on each side of the tailgate so the window will roll up with the gate closed. Roll up the window, even though the gate is open, and you will be able to get to the lock. A wiring connector clips to the top of the lock and a large clip holds it to the gate.
