I was out wheelin, and the trail was a steep climb on a forest road for about 10 miles and the automatic tranny temp light came on. I just stopped and turned off my 4runner for a few minutes and it went off, but then it would come back on. Do 4runners over heat the transmissions easliy? I saw it has a cooler, but it looks like its for the transfer case? I changed the fluid and filter when I got home, but I have not been out wheelin this week yet. What can I do to keep the tranny cool???

BTW ordered coil spacers, bj spacers, panhard drop, and front diff drop from 4crawler.com Cant wait to install!!

 

Install a external tranny cooler

And yes the cooler is for the xfer case

 

and the auto trans share the fluid with the transfer case.

 

Make sure you have proper axle gearing for your tire size and install an extra tranny cooler.

First thing to do would be to check/change your tranny fluid.

 

I had the same problem on hills in N. Mississippi. I installed a Hayden tranny cooler and never had the problem again, going on 3 years now. It cost around $50-60 shipped.
