T-case troubles

So, just had the shop put in some new input/output seals on my t-case and they noticed "the bearing in there is whrring away...". I guess there was water in there and rusted the s*#t out of everything. The chain was really rusted in one spot...so there was a supposed tight link. I was advised not to really use the 4x4 at higher speeds (80km/h-ish) but using it "occasionally to get unstuck" would be alright. They "cleaned" it out and replaced the seals so it works but I would like to have the 4x4 working at some point without any worry of it leaving my stranded. I was told there not prob. driving it 2x4 though. Is there a way to rebuild this...I was told by the shop they could send it away to rebuild for around $800 but that seems steep. I checked out Marlin for their kits but only found stuff for the RF series nothing for VF1A. I won't be doing any wheeling the next few months until my back is better but would like it for the winter. Any suggestions or thoughts on this?

Anyone? I guess I can't bolt up an RF series t-case to a G58 tranny eh?

Used gear drive tcases go for about $150 (US) ... $800 (CDN) to rebuild is ridiculous.

I would think any gear drive transfer case with the same type shifter (top or forward) would bolt up behind your transmission. The reason I think that is that any gear drive case will bolt to the Marlin V6 adapter which is used to go from a V6 tranny to a 4 cyl (gear drive) transfer case so they must all have the same bolt pattern...

Certainly, Marlin is the place to call with tranny/transfer case questions.

Thanks TC. I thought $800 was crazy. So Marlin eh? Starting at $150, that sounds more like it. I'll try getting ahold of them even though I've heard it's near impossible. Anyone else have any ideas?

marlin, wabfab, cal minitruck has used ones for $250 in stock, but by the time you put bearings and maybe gears your at $700, and that is with you doing the labor. i have seen the rf1a for $50, but they are always in california, and freight would kill me.
