I'm pretty sure a clutch is going to be in my future and I was wondering what it would take - if really anything - to swap my 4 speed trans for a 5 speed? I saw a 5 speed on Craigslist the other day for a real good price. I'm sure it has sold but that got me thinking about this.. anyone do this?

I'm hoping it is just a swap out..

 

i swapped a 5 spd out of a 82 model into my 89 22r with a 4 spd. the trans. was jumping out of gear on a couple gears. the drive line fit fine, the hole for the shifter had to be moved closer to the seat. i also had to use the 82 speedometer cable. i would think a trans closer in year model wouldn't have as many problems. the 82 trans was handy and i needed the truck ,other wise i would have waited.

 

I went to see a 87 truck being parted out earlier today. It was totally trashed and had been under water for a few weeks (recent Nor'easter here on the east coast). If I can get a 5speed for a good price - I might just wing it and try it out.
