Stupid Starter
My starter has decided to hate me and I'm trying to figure out what kind it is so I can either buy contacts from 4crawler or get the dang thing replaced.
Symptoms: It will click nice and solid everytime I hit the ignition, sometimes it will even start. If I push the rig a little ways (4 or 5 feet) and drop the clutch the starter will then turn and start the truck, it usually takes less than half a revolution to start the rig.
So is there a plate that will say "Denso" on it? The starter was supposed to have been replaced by the PO but with all the other half butted garbage that was done I wouldn't be surprised if it's a cheap starter.
89 4runner, 22re, 4x4, 5 speed.
Thank you.

I know Toyotas are picky about their alternators, must be Toyota OEM, but I don't think the same applies to starters. I just had the same problem you're describing, and it was a loose connection going from the starter to the fuse box, at the fuse box end. You could always pull it and go have it tested for free at a parts store. That way you can rule out the starter itself. If it was just replaced I'm sure it's fine and you have a bad connection.

Ricky, Just like any other Toyota/Denso product it should have some badging on it.
If its dirty see if you can scrub it and find a logo.
Or order the contacts, while trying to figure out if its a denso or not..
If its not sell the contacts, Or by a bone yard starter..?
Idk just options..
Good luck !
