stripped a head bolt!! Help?

changed the head gasket on my 86 22r and while torqueing the head bolts the #3 exhaust bolt spun at about 40lbs That was probably the reason I needed a new head gasket anyhow

So now the question......

Any ideas on how to resolve this without removing the head? All other bolts torque fine.

did you clean the old threads with a chaser before you put the head back on? if not your sol. Gonna have to take the head off to get to those holes and re-thread/tap them if your lucky and not have to take it to a machine shop to have repaired. My guess is you cross threaded them. You used anti-sieze or oil on the bolts as well right?

man im hoping im not sol
yes cleaned and oiled the bolt, no like an arse, didnt chase the threads when I had the head off. The bolt hand started just fine and no indication of an issue. First round with the torque wrench to 30 lbs on all the bolts went perfect. I then cranked it up to 60lbs and restarted the sequence, got to that bolt and it spun after two short pulls. so my guess is about 35ft lbs.

OH well at least I know why the head gasket blew in the 1st place on that cylinder. Live and learn the guy that sold it to me must have know?

Next best bet is to drill out the hole and tap the threads a size up.
but youre going to have to pull the head :/
