Starter trigger wire

Ok, I've narrowed my recent starting issues to a bad trigger wire to the starter(if I touch it the truck starts). Now the problem is I want to replace the whole wire but I can't find a good enough diagram of where it runs. I tried the FSM and I can't find any diagrams on there. I mainly want to know if it goes to the relay on the drivers or pass side kick panel.

I'm looking for the exact same damn relay. Problem is, Toyota seems to have moved this relay around over the years. (to make it more difficult to steal maybe). Search, "Matt16 starter relay" and you may find some hints, but I've got the same year 4Runner (22RE as well) and I have been unable to find it so far after several hours searching. The negative wire to the starter seems to go directly to the battery already, but the positive seems to go from the starter to through the bulkhead (I think) towards the passenger footwell. I took apart the dash early (before I traced the wire) but was unable to find the relay. I think there is a decent chaince of finding somewhere behind the glovebox or by the ECU, but I haven't found it yet.

That says, my 1990 FSM says the relay is its in the No.1 Junction box on the drivers side.

4Crawler's (guy on this website) page says: Note that starter relays only started being used about the 1986 model year on the Toyota pickups and 4Runners. One way to find the relay if it is not easily seen, is to follow the small wire from the starter solenoid back to the relay, if there is one. I have a none-OEM air pump the size of a lawn mower engine sitting between the oil filter and crank pulley so its hard to spot anything down there anymore.

PM me when you find it, I'll do likewise.

It seems to me its simply on the driver inner fender but you guys would have probably found it by now if it was that easy.

Try putting your Vin in here and seeing where the part it located. I use this sometimes when i cant find something.

Found it!!!!!!!!!!

Starter relay is surrounded by a red box on the parts screen.

The relay itself is a green box marked Toyota Denso Starter Relay

voila. Looks to be a bit of a pain to get in there though to do the relay mod.

Most awesome reference ever. Thanks dntsdad.

Yeah I saw that one on the drivers side kick panel as well. But I also heard a relay clicking on the pass side kick panel at the same time.

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought to use that site. I would have probably taken apart the dash looking for the relay. I had that site bookmarked, but I didn't know/ remember it showed pictures of part location.
