Speedometer issue!

Greetings!
I just picked up a '94 Pickup dlx 2wd (auto) and the speedometer/ odo/ and "D" light does not work. I know i should check the speed sensor, but could it possibly be something else? I would assume the light would work when i shift into drive at least. Maybe issue with the cluster it self? Help!

Are you saying the speedometer, the odometer, and the light for the shift indicator don't work? Or are you saying the lights for the speedometer, odometer, and shift indicator don't work?

Is there are separate bulb for each shift position? Easiest thing to check is to pull the bulb and see if it lights up when 12V is applied. Could also use a voltmeter to see if there's 12V at the socket when the trans is in drive.

Does your truck have a mechanical or electronic speedometer? Meaning does it use a speedometer cable or sensor? Either way, the cable or sensor will be located at nearly the farthest point back on the transmission, on the right side. See if you have a speedometer drive cable or an electrical sensor with a plug and wires coming out of it.
