Got the recall done over the weekend at Town and Country Toyota in Charlotte, NC. I was in and out in under 2 hours. Jeremy, the service adevisor I had, showed me the alignment specs after all was set and done and sent me on my way. Free alignment and no attempt to sell me a bunch of crap, definitely the best dealership experience I've had.

Uhm, yeah, I felt quite bad when I knew of this "fault" in 'yotas...
Aftermath...
I discovered it the "hard way".

read this entire thread nonamer - there are some plusses to having it done ... free alignment and possibly new tie rods, Pitman arm, idler arm ... aside from, well, LIVING! You DID see the picture of ulfr's truck right?

Does anyone have a current link to the recall notice? The http://www.mudrunner.ca/other/toyotaSSC.pdf in an earlier post does not work. Thank you.

Main Link Replacement
A couple of years ago I came across a similar recall. I brought my 90 4runner to the Toyota dealer and they replaced the main rod between the steering box are and the idler arm.
Is this the same thing or something different?

I had my recall notice last summer and took it in. They did a great job on the alignment too.
As far as I know,The head problem isn't covered under any recalls...that I'm aware of. I've also had to have my heads redone last summer due to the head gasket blowing. I talked with the local stealership them about any possible coverage under a recall, but no dice.

Don't understand why this is coming up now from NHTSA. My steering relay rod was replaced via Toyota recall in Dec 2006. I have a 92 4x4 pickup. Parts were $92.91 and labor was $325.60. Glad it was on their dime, not mine.
On another note why can't I get my idle to change via the idle screw. It has no affect. I have had a dramatic loss of power. Cat is clear and chain is good. Anyone?

Just found this thread and called the 800# about mine. Looks like it was done in 05. I'm a little disappointed I was hoping for possibly a free replacement idler arm and tierod ends as mine are pretty shot lol. Oh well if anything at least now I'm updated as the current owner in their database if there's any future notices.
