has anyone put some speakers right below the X-traCab window..there seems to be plenty of room..but i havent taken the panel off yet to see whats behind it..i think it would be a great idea!
and since i have 2 6.5" jensen's that are brand new..why not put em there...i already got door speakers..and im about to replace and wire up my dash speakers..

when im done with it..i should have
2 jensen dash speakers (what size to get???)
2 Jensen 6.5" door speakers..
2 jensen 6x9's in their own boxes.
2 Jensen 6.5's in the side of the cab..below the X-tra Cab window and my 12" sub..with a redesigned box (one that is ALOT smaller)..then i will have my 1000-1400W amp..lol

plus whatever head unit i decide to buy..along with HOPEFULLY an upgraded alternator..new battery..capacitor..and who knows...maybe even a dual battery set up..with a second battery in the tool box behind the cab

this is something i can do right now..because i already have all the stuff to do it with..

im just wondering if i can put the speakers under the X-tra Cab window..

Are you talking about in the little cubbies? if so yes,I have two either 6 or 6.5 in them one on each side.For some reason my sr5 model only came with the two dash speaker and a speaker right in front of the gear shifter so I put those in the little cubbies.

no..my truck is an '86 it has no cubby holes...algranger has the right idea..the people that own the 84-88 ext cabs will know what im talking about..lol you other lucky people that have the 89-95 ext cabs will not

since i believe algranger because he has a 84-88 truck..i will be taking mine apart..and cutting some holes..running some wiring..and junk like that..

1000-1400 watts, dual batterys? you always try to go over kill. I have one 12" mephis m-class in a custom vented box and 200watts going to it and a pioneer head unit and it beats like a motha. my friends can hardly stand it, it will flex the entire back of my f150's cab. if you want a system build a box out of good wood, seal it up good, and get the right air space.

If I were you I would go with the 6.5s and a good set of tweeters up front, 6x9s out back and one 12 in a good box with a 250watt amp. Get a good head unit, the more settings the better. If I decide to do a system in my 82 thats what I am going to do.

IK what you mean Camo... from what I remember of that truck 6.5s would probably fit but they might look a little oversize for the space. Opinions anybody? The dash speakers are 4" you will have to slightly modify the mounting clips on the speakers Toy uses a slightly wider 4" speaker basket called the 4T not all companies make them.

Get some good 4"ers and a set of tweeters and youll be set...

My set up is two soundstream 4" with adj. mids built in and a set of tweeters (cant remember the name at the moment...two 10" 350w pioneer subs in a custom box powered by a pioneer 300w amp connected to a kenwood head unit...wired so you can fade all to tweeters or all to 4", which are mids and highs...

it really bumps the single cab, and is suuuper clear, but i listen to more hardcore stuff...it sounds allright with (c)rap and hip hop but the harder stuff is best...the only thing i would probly change is some 400w subs to be able to handle the 300w amp better...just my opinion tho...

I personally wouldnt put them in the door just in case the window gets in the way you would have no way to roll the window all the way down unless you have the hornet window...i have seen the kick panel speakers tho, i think they're 6"...but foot space is a must for me ...again, just my opinion...

lol this is a fun subject. i have a 92 4runner and managed to fit 13 speakers, 4 4" and 4 6.5" and 2 Tweeters. plus 2 10" subs... and 2 amps. one 1000watt and one 1600watt.... you jsut need to map out your truck and find every little hole everywhere where you could fit something. its chalenging which is why it took me over 6 months to find places for everything and intall iot all... need anymore help pm me!!!

Yeah that was the factory location for the rears if you ordered the premium sound package... only downside was you lost the rear side cubbies...

decided not to do the speakers below the windows yet...just too much trouble..(its a B#$@! to get that plastic out)..notice i said yet..i will someday..

so my plans now..are..sell my head unit($50) sell my amp ($75) buy new headunit ($100+) buy new 1000w amp from friend ($50) and buy 2 4in dash speakers prob $40

also gotta find the REALLY small 12in box that my friend has..hes gonna give it to me..but i gotta find it in his barn/shed/garage thingy

im probably going to upgrade my wiring to...probably go with some cheap stuff from walmart...just bigger gauge on everything..O YEA
im also ordering some LED's for everything..like allllll my gauge and dash lights...and AC/Heater controls..and hopefully get an SR5 gauge cluster at the same time..

i believe thats all im going to do to it interior wise..i want some damn Carpet on the floor...but im always gettin mud inside (big time hunter and fisherman) so i'd have to wash it like every weekend..and dont wanna do rhinoliner or anything like that..its just toooo rough..

I built some custom kick panels for my 6X9s on the rear panels of my 4runner, which sort of point forward and up, and they sound clean. They give the perfect mid range that I was looking for. Plus the fiberglass reinforced the flimsy side panels very well. When I was finished, I painted them, and they came out looking almost stock.

I actually did a whole sound system on the truck with amps, subs, etc, but the 6x9s alone sound great because of their enclosures.

If you have the time a few bucks to play with, I would highly recommend them. If you simply stick speakers in a bare hole, as in the side panels, without making them enclosures, your sound quality will be okay, but noticeably out of tune.

I tested on of my mids without the enclosures, and the other with, and there was a very noticeable difference.

i put 6x9s in the location you're talking about my old 87 xcab turbo. since there is not cubby hole like the 3rd gen trucks, you have to put them into either a 6x9 box or build like a 2-3" 'riser' plate/frame for the speaker to mount on the plastic sidewalls. mine had the 6x9 boxes mounted under the POS cardboard rear deck and my dad's 84 pickup had them above the plate mounted on the plastic sides in a wood frame. i didn't really bother with the plastic trim, but instead just ran the wire down and under the carpet to the head unit. i also had speakers in my bed because i always had people laying in the back under the shell. split the wires to the 6x9s and ran the wire through a drain plug and into the bed. mounted those 4" speakers in custom triangulated boxes (to fit in the corners of the bed) and put a disconnecting inline terminal/disconnect (same as RC car battery clips from Radio Shack) so they could be easily removed.

that's quite a lot of speakers you're wanting to put in that truck. seems a little overkill to me, but that's just my opinion. i'd just go with front speakers, 6x9s in the back plus a small sub and spend the rest of the money on something else. my 87 had a pioneer cd player deck and it sounded alright, but my dad's 84 had the stock am/fm cassette stereo + equalizer mounted underneath it and his blew mine out of the water. not too many people put in equalizers these days, but they can really make a difference since they amp up the power as well.
