When I got my first car the alternator went out and the battery died, I went to the parts store to get a battery and the positive sign had been scratched so it looked like a negative, I was young and just looked at the one sign and hooked up the battery, got in the car and went to start it, wondered why all my guages were spinning backwards, got out and fixed it, started right up without any issues(gotta love old hot rods) smacked myself in the head and realized I need to pay more attention and slow down, lesson learned.

Really, the kid probably feels horrible and would kick himself in the ass if flexible enough, as long as he learns something from it, I think he has punished himself enough already.

Good to hear it was just the fuse.

Oh, and my dummy was trying to impress a girl from school who walked home with him. He's 15. Lol! Kids will be kids and boys will be boys.

YEAHHHHHHH, BOOOOOOEY! lol. Woot, woot indeed

Hey, ..... I was working on cars from around 11... Pops was VERY anal about safety..... And YET, lol.... While I've never done what the boy did, ...I've had terrible luck with just RANDOM INANIMATE OBJECTS WITH BATTERIES DOING RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE toward me, on many occasions! LOL. .....

One time, while cruising down PCH in Venice with a hottie, ...I noticed this light smoke coming from the hood of my 66 Mercury COMET Capri.... 390/built, etc., ......... WELL, ......... as I looked from underneath(NOT BRIGHT,lol), there is my positive wire completely bare, insulation dripping off onto my neck!! lol.... Some kind of surge/battery defect... I replaced the battery and not another issue

Another time, I pulled up in the alley, went inside..... Coming out around 4 minutes later, I hear what sounded like 'bearing whine', and I'm thinking, "OH NO, what I thought was a cherry deal on a problem free 79 GMC 4WD Shorty was a bust", due to bearings, etc........... Until I go to open the hood, and BAMMMMMMMMMMMMM! I swear, like a shotgun,..... the battery exploded so badly that it bent my hood in half and the ONLY reason I wasn't blinded, ETC., ETC., ETC,.............it exploded before the hood could be opened! lol.

ANOTHER TIME, .... taking off in a 27' Challenger Boat with a 454/BUILT, etc., ...................get to around 70MPH, right after it's broken in, etc.(2nd trip out)...... BLAMMOOOOOOOOO! ANOTHER FREAKIN BATTERY, and this time, I blew a hole right through the bottom/side of the boat..... SUNK IT! lol.

Ok, that's enough.... BUT, as far as your boy? .... I'VE DONE WORSE! lol. We ALL have, lol.

Great news, bud!

SUCCESS! I had a sneaking suspicion when I noticed that I didn't hear the fuel pump when I turned on the key. Yep, EFI 15A fuse was blown. I swapped it for the spare in the fuse cover panel and vroom, vroom, sweet tapping engine noises! I thought I was screwed on this deal. Three bucks total to get 'er runnin'. Can't be beat. Now I just have to get the welder out and start cutting rusty panels out! Thanks again for steering me right!

at least he didn't try to change the oil, draining tranny fluid and adding 3.5qts of oil to the engine.

As I said in post #2, check the fuses.
Glad you are back on the road. Now, time for a lesson in proper use of the jumper cables.

Yes I'm back on the road soon to take it back off and do some metal cutting and repair. I got my first piece to see how it turns out. A cab corner repair piece. I want to wire brush and pressure wash the whole bottom of the rig too, then spray some sort of rust preventer all over everything. Everything on the bottom of the truck looks like it was dipped in orange paint

Any suggestions for rust preventer? I know they have some kind of oil stuff that you can buy in a kit. I can't remember what it's called. It's that stuff that you spray inside the doors and body panels etc. I figure once I repair the body that stuff could be good. Do you guys think that a regular undercoating or bedliner would be good on the underside?

I mean the oily stuff to spray inside of body panels. I know POR15 is good. I would like to do frame pieces with it. I know that they have that waxoyl stuff or something like that.

No fork I did it myself. I am the worst teacher ever, as evidenced by my son connecting the leads backwards! I just have no patience!

HAHAHA,..... TOTALLYYYYY seen that movie, bud! lol. Actually, I ALMOST broke things til I peeped the book....

Basically, you have to push the clips in on top, drop it out the bottom and THERE ARE LARGE SCREWS holding that fuse in... it will NOT come out(other than in pieces ) until you unscrew that screw(The fusible link from the positive terminal screws in over there, into a plate that also serves to hold the 80A fuse in place when screwing the screw-bolt through the fusible link eyelet).

I might have a pic......... I'll look in a bit.

FIRST, I HAD TO unbolt the fusible link box to get enough clearance to get that section of the fuse block out the bottom

PS>>>>>>>> DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND, FIRST ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !

PSS> I plan on replacing my fusible link wire(factory 10AWG) with a 4AWG wire, soon.(Have to get in there to repair the trailer electrical wiring again.... PO CUT IT!
