Yes...section of axle. Take that to a shop so they can press on/off the bearings.

I had gear oil everywhere also when my seals/ bearings went. Seriously, if it reaks like rotten egg, its gear oil. The fix is easier than you think. If there is no brake fluid missing.....

Yes my wife just reminded me that when I was working on the truck she could smell rotten eggs coming from somewhere. I blew it off. But now that you mention it.
I'm still a little confused about the part to take in to the shop.
Looking at my haynes I can sorta see what ya mean. I thingk it will make more sence once I have the thing apart.

I guess we haven't identified that your bearings need attention. With the vibration you are feeling (maybe a little creaking also) and the fluid, I have a sneaking suspicion they are gone.

This was the write-up I was looking for earlier.

Yea. I thingk they are gone or going. So I guess I just take that part, X the tire and rim, to the shop and have them get the bearings out. and put new ones in for me?
Right?

Correct... you just need to bring in the axles. You'll see the bearings and how they press on once it's in your hand.

I would not neglect this service, not that it sounds like you are planning to do so.

Right, No Im not neglecting it. Im just in denial about it. I was hoping that it was the brake fluid. But the car has been vibrating so much on heavy breaking, getting off freeway or down steep hill. I just pulled my tires for a break check and found this. At first I thought it was going to be my front roters being warped. But once I found the fluid all over the rear brake drums I checked into it further. But Im on it. I love my trucks too much. And its a 91 170k so its time for some TLC. Plus this is my wifes baby. Thanx again guys I'll update.

It's not a hard job i did the same thing when i was 18 on my 86 runner a year later the other side went out. Got the bearings at NAPA (better quality) Also buy new brake lines cuz you'll probably break those off trying to remove them. Four bolts on the back side of the hub hold things in place you don't have to remove the third member to take out the axle shaft. The seal is between the hub bearing and the axle tube inside the axle tube. You should be able to pull the old bearing out and you can tap the new one in place with a big socket or a piece of 4x4 wood. Save the $$$ and do it your self.
