Some random Newb questions/problems...

I just signed up and need some help with my '87 4Runner. It's got the 22RE with about 193,000 miles on it.
Long story short she suddenly started getting hot and I now have the dreaded antifreeze in the oil. There is no oil in the antifreeze, and the damn truck was running fine and not smoking at all?? Would those problems indicate a head gasket most likely?

On a second note, I located a 22RTE complete motor minus ECU. Is this swap possible assuming I can locate a computer? And major hurdles to get it to work? I'm famaliar with motors etc, I have a lot of wrench time on cars but not on Toyota's.

Thanks alot for any info, I just need to get my Runner back up and running. It's my only mode of transportation right now. I'll have some pics and info of it put up in a bit.
Thanks again.
Mark

Here is my rig:

Mark, I responded to your email, but just for future reference:
Members of the 22RTE group have had success transplanting (complete) a 22RTE into a rig that originally had a 22RE. They've used the existing wiring harness and a 22RTE computer.

That solution surprised me, so I did some digging into the harness/pin out differences:

It looks to me like it could work, but you'll lose some functions like 02 heat.

For automatics, you're on your own - I don't think it will work, but can't confirm that.

Personally, I don't recommend it. Replace the ECU with a megasquirt unit and one of my harnesses, then you can get away from the stock CT20 turbo, run a CT26 - and you'll get a lot more performance out of that engine with correct engine management.. Otherwise swap in a 22RE harness also - or go through the diagram that I've outlined above and make sure that your 02 heat and any other missing functions work.
