I have this setup on my '99 and I absolutely love it. Its reliable, strong, redundant and provides better stopping with rear disc brakes.
interesting.
I might just do this. only to take the load off the carrier bearing, thus prolonging the life of it.

but looking at the link i am confused. i understand it all, except, what does the manual hub lock onto? since the outside of the axle is flat.
this part made some sense to me but still i dont see how the hub is supposed to lock on to that.

you wouldnt happen to have an exploded diagram of this setup?

You also have to have the spindles and hubs from a front SA.

No exploded diagram, if I actually had my rear in gear and my website updated, I would have the correct pictures for you (*sigh*, too much work and too little time).

The item in the above picture is the flange. This flange replaces the manual lock out hubs. Because I wanted the most strength for the buck, I went with the flanges and ARP hub studs, instead of manual hubs. These are quality flanges and have been holding up quite well for me.

If you are looking for an exploded view, I would suggest searching for an online manual. I have seen a few, and you may even find a link or two here in Yotatech.

The kit comes with new axle shafts that are longer and splined on the outside to engage the locking hub/flange.

Stock axle housing - remove all the junk to the 4 bolt flange
FROR Adapter - RTV to the axle housing w/ the 4 bolts and attach caliper to adapter
Custom chromoly axles
SFA spindle and wheel hub onto adapter w/ OEM seals

The rest should be easy to figure out.

So today while finishing up our grinding on Tippy - The grinder troy was using bucked up into his face. He had eye protection on but it hit his cheek and nose. We waited 2 hours in the ER waiting room. Then another 2 hours for a Dr. And finally 2 more hours for a plastic surgeon to come and stitch him up....

Lesson learned... wear lots of PPE!

Before they stitched it...

Actually, it didn't hurt at all until they went to numb it.

The tetanus shot sucked worse.

That sucks man, you may need even more numbing when you get the bill, my last trip to the ER cost me about $1000 and that was WITH full coverage health insurance. Hope you heal up soon, remember chicks dig body damage.

Yeah that sucks. I had a former boss years ago grab a grinder out of my hand as I was explaining the need to be careful because he had taken the guards off all of the grinders he owned.....He layed into the project & did the exact same thing in the exact same place on his face. He was miserable after the swelling set in. I hope you heal without a lot of that to contend with.

Troy, glad you are ok. I do way safety glasses, but this is the very reason I have a death grip on that grinder when my in tight quarters. Then, the next day, my arms are really sore from having a death grip on said grinder.

heal up quickly.

ouch on the grinder accident. I've had mine buck a few times and one night when i shouldnt of been working on the truck anymore i went to change the blade and mistaked the ON buttom for the button that locks the wheel so you can unscrew it. I was a centimeter away from having my fingers on the blade.. ugh i got lucky. I went to bed afterthat. =)

oh and im STILL curious: Is it just me or wouldnt that really messed up housing be somehow linked to why the axle came out?

if that was how it was BEFORE the axle came off thats probably the cause of the whole accident.

With a houseing that bent, I don't think you could drive on that, even when the axle was still attached to it.. I think the houseing became bent when the wheel bearing failed, letting the axle walk out. When the axle came out most of the way, the torque placed on tire, made the axle shaft like a leveraging bar inside the axle housing. This kind of pressure pulling back on the houseing could bend it.
