Shop manual

I just purchased a 1988 4wd 22re regular cab pickup. Any recommendations on a good repair manual would be appreciated. Thanks

I like the Haynes manual. It's only about $12 and will tell you everything you need to know.

Haynes and Chiltons are good for things like changing oil or valve adjustments. If you want to do anything more serious than that you need a FSM

You beat me to it. Neither Chilton or Haynes do anything more than explain how to dissassemble and reassemble, with varying degrees of accuracy. A FSM is much more useful, but also more expensive.

There are a few online FREE FSM hosts. You can download to your computer, IPOD, PDA, whatever OR burn onto a CD. I have mine printed out, 3 hole punched in 3 binders. People think spending 100 dollars or more on a service manual is a waste but to be honest it is the most important tool you can own. I dont consider it a book but a tool just like my wrench or screwdriver.
