Shift Indicator in Shifter Assembly - Only one complex option left?

I’ve been searching everywhere to find a new Shift Indicator (the PRND2L and H2 H4 L4) for my ‘87 SR5 Turbo Automatic. Toyota has it discontinued. No local salvage yard has one. Searched the top Toyota salvage yards and they said it’s too small of a part for them to make $ on so they “scrap” them.

Two days ago I found a Salvage Parts sourcing specialist who searched 6,000 savage yards. He found one, I paid for the entire Shifter Assemby, then refunded me as the part ended up not having the Indicator. I’ve posted a WTB here. Overall, no luck anywhere.

My original one bubbled. When I got rid of the bubbles, the backside (which is surprisingly complex to have letters, Black, and illumination in multiple layers) essentially fell apart.

Unless someone has one or can find one for me, my only idea is this:

1) Find a template of the letters and dimensions - does this exist? Maybe someone has created one already
2) If no template, make one on laptop - letters, lines, and black for all else
3) Print on paper and test fit
4) Revise 5x+ to get it perfect
5) Print on something like an old Transparency Sheet
6) Adhere it to the old one (after it is cleaned and prepped of course)

Any better ideas? From what I can tell, these things are extinct and i’m Sure i’m Not the only one in need of this repair.

Thanks!

Never got feedback on this, but after a few days of trial and error, the approach I outlined above worked in case anyone else ever has this problem. The key, as I found out, is layering (which is how the OEM unit is actually made. I printed a template on paper as the bottom later in color and B/W (use an exacto to cut out the shifter squares on each side so the orange will show through), then a B/W only printed copy on transparency, and finally a clear transparency on top for protection.

Worked like a charm in case anyone else ever has this problem.
