separating front rotor from axle hub.
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I am attempting to replace the front rotors on my 1993 4wd 4Runner. I have removed the rotor and hub assembly from the spindle but am having a bear of a time getting the two separated. I have searched the posts and not found the answer i am looking for so hopefully a kind soul out there will be able to help me out.
The Haynes manual i have makes it look like you lay the rotor side down and bang the end of the bolts with a hammer and punch. I tried turning the bolts and they won't budge so maybe there is merit to this banging method?

I just did this a few months ago. I soaked all the bolts in PB Blaster, and then placed the rotor in a vise. I used a 1/2 breaker bar, and they came right off. Having a vise is the best way, because there is really no good way to hold the rotor still. Even after I got the bolts out, I had to use a big chisel to seperate the hub and rotor.

I just did both of mine and I found that just sticking the hub upside down in the rim is enough to hold the hub to loosten the bolts (for both loostening and tightening) And I used an impact socket on a breakerbar. You may find that you need to put a bit of weight on the tire. Once they are loose remove with a ratchet. Then you may need a cold chisel or standard screw driver and hammer to get the hub/rotor to separate working around the outside bit by bit... Hope this helps....

Praise be to the internet and the ease of getting help when it is needed. How did people ever get anything done before Al Gore invented this fine instrument of knowledge distribution?
