Second Gen. throttle body problems.
My Runner has been idling a bit high (up to 1800rpm) and not just because it's cold and warming up. Somewhat erratic too. I wasn't sure what it was and I usually do my own work, but I'm too busy lately. So reluctantly I took it down to my local toyota specialist. After checking it out they told me the throttle body assembly is sticking. they have a used one they offered to install for $275. They also said a new one costs $800, which sounds a little inflated to me but havn't looked into it carefully yet. I have heard of people remedying this with sprays, at least for while.
What do you think? My runner only has 89,000 miles. I am surprised my TB would be so jacked it needs to be replaced. Do you think I should try cleaning it? Should I just have them put it on, or look for one from Napa or something to put on this weekend myself?
While I am on the subject, is there any affordable and easy bolt-on upgrade, maybe larger bore TB from another engine I could do while I am addressing this?

Larger bore TB isn't gonna help much on a stock engine unless you had the heads and intake ported and all that good stuff. If it was me I would take the TB off, buy some TB cleaner, take the throttle position sensor off, and clean the butterflies and inside where the sensor goes. Thats all it needs. You will need a multimeter to set the TPS with. If it isn't set properly then it will not run right.
Average cost: $5 Throttle body cleaner
$20-30 Multimeter
