seats in pickup bed

How legal is it to do this? I plan to use the lap belts from the bench seat to use for seat belts. But since it's a pickup, shouldn't I be able to get away without installing restraints provided as the people in the back are over 16? (the legal age in my state for people riding in the bed)

Still not sure about seat placement, but this is the best that I could come up with.

i plan on putting 2 aluminum racing seats in the back of my 81 once i can finish the exo and provide a little protection in case of a rollover. I plan on puttign 4 point harnesses though just because they will ad safety and keep law enforcement off me.

Nice, Yeah I modified my old camper shell to fit around my roll bar so there's still some protection. No sense in taking my roll bar off when I can just cut up an already leaky camper top.

in my comanche I mounted a plastic summit racing seat on a 5 ft stand with a footrest and tie-down strap for a seatbelt...best roller-coaster ever.

i don't have pics of that setup (boy, I wish I did) but texas law says all seats have to have a restraint.

i was thinking about doing this in my 79, test fitted my buddies Jeep YJ back seat between the wheel wells, fit really nice, my plan was to just use lap belts, and a 1st gen 4runner rollbar over top, then i wrecked the truck and more important projects took over lol

haha I hear ya. Your cab swap thread helped me a bit with mine! Now I'm just trying to make the "new" truck even better than my old one.

If you could find a old Subaru Brat in a boneyard...the back seats (w/ headrest) are the ticket..
