seat belt retractors?
#21
well, this is a daily driver so its a daily nuisance, so I cant just leave it. Besides, if it doesnt retract properly, how can you guarantee it'll function correctly in an accident?
Taking apart sounds great, Im going to try it. If I loose the spring, I'll just be back to square one, where Im at now anyway, with the option to buy a new belt. Nothing to lose in the effort. Thanks for the tutorial link!

$140 belt retractors?
A year or two ago I got one from my local Toyota dealer which is NOT a discount operation and I swear it was under $50...don't remember exactly.
It's already getting weak, though.

I also did the fix from 4x4wire and it fixed my seat belts right up....for a year atleast. Maybe it's time to do it again.

Might be worth a shot. Not hard to do.

thanks for the support guys! Im going to attempt the minute mod and will reports back, maybe take some pics to supplement the minute mod page.
I also found seat belts on ebay for $30 each or a pair for $40. They are OEM, but some aftermarket stuff. If oem goes lazy after only a year or two, Im not stuck on them as the only source for this part anyway.
Dealer didnt offer free replacement, but did offer a discounted price of $85 per side.
If I find junk toyotas in a salvage yard and the pass side belt has good action, can I pull that retractor and belt and use it on the drivers side? Are they direction-specific?
