It won't work in your hand...that is the problem...I mean it will but not sure how to explain it to you to test it.

Heh, I am actually having the same problem with my hub not wanting to unlock... and also my follower pawl is mangled as well...

The flat side of the big spring goes against the pawl, not the dial.
What does that mean? Doesn't the big spring go in between the pawl and the dial?

Light grease, just enough to coat the parts lightly. Too much grease and it sticks...took apart some the other day...and the pawl would not move cause of so much grease.

Take the big spring out and set it on a flat surface. One side is flat and the spring will sit vertical. The other end is not flat and the spring will sit like the leaning tower of Pisa.

Flat end goes next to the pawl, not the dial.

ahh, I get it... what happens if you put the spring in backwards? Could that be what's keeping my hub from unlocking?

Your truck will implode.

Yes, if you put the big spring in upside down the hub won't work properly.

I didn't realize there was a correct and incorrect orientaion (spelling) to that big spring??? Mine work properly after my rebuild, so I assume all is well...

And oh yeah, untill you place the hub cover and dial on the body, it's no going to move to it's proper locking and unlocking positions; the hub body keeps everything in line and on track... it's hard to explain really, but once you bolt it together things move like they should... assuming it's put together right...

I do have a question though...

Does anyone know where you can purchase nice looking replacement bolts for the hub cover? Stainless steel maybe? After the rebuild, I have these pretty red and black painted hub cover and dial, and these ugly rusted up bolts holding it on...

Ha, lol.
nice.
Well downey supplied new face bolts with my gaskets and o rings.
But the ones that hold the hub to the body are not.
No biggie really.
Why dont you just pull up to a hardware store, pull one of each bolts, head inside and get replacements ?

And yes, i figured it out it must be something about the pressure inside the hub body that makes it do what its gotta do.

if you know the thread pitch and diameter, you can get nearly anything you want, powder coated, etc...
if you're looking for stainless, first place I'd look is a fastenal dealer.
