Screwy idle

was having a problem last night with the idle on my 1994 4-runner w./ 22re.
The usual idle on this pig is about 5-700rpms. While sitting in my friends driveway idling away with the pedals tottaly clear the idle jumps to about 3000rpms, then drops down to about 1700-2200rpms where it fluctuates from that range to about 3300rpms. At this point I stab the gas to bring it to about 6000rpms, when I let off it dropped down to about 1000rpms where it stayed for a second and then jumped back up to the 1700-2200rpm range again where it stays for about 30seconds. After all of the above it settled down to the 250-500rpm mark (acceptable?).

The whole time it sounded as if it had a lumpy cam in it

Was it cold outside? 3300 seems quite high but the engine may have been adjusting to operating temperature?

Try cleaning your throttle body really well. Sounds like it is gummed up. I would also run some good fuel injector cleaner through it. I usually do a double dose when I do mine.
