SAS parts interchange

I've got a 1986 Toyata. I'm looking at swapping out the front IFS for a solid front. I'm trying to locate a solid front from a 85 and earlier model to perform the swap with. I've got 5.29 front gears in my IFS differential housing along with an automatic locker. I dont want to have to buy new gears and lockers so I was trying to find out if the parts i currently have in the front differential can be interchanged into the new toyota solid axle. Can anyone help me out. I dont want to buy the axle and try to swap the parts if they wont fit and have to hault the upgrade. Thanks for any help.

No way around it, you will need to buy new gears.

I do not think the gear sets are interchangeable, but I do not thing the SFA is an 8" housing.

The 8" housing is for the V6 trucks rear only. I think the SFA housing is either a 7.5" or 7.8" (someone confirm please?)

yea... well i gotta figure it out what im going to put under the front end. id really like to pull the rear axle and place a Dana 60 and 66 under the front and rear... Im running 37's and i love rock crawling so i want something beefy enough to take a beating and handle these larger tires. im gonna stick with 5.29's to spin everything and i've managed to get a hold of a rebuilt Ford 302 out of a 89 mustang GT. i plan on dropping that in there as soon as i find a suitable 5 speed to mate it to

No.

Mini truck front axles are 8". As are 79-95 4cyl and V6 rear ends. They are all interchangeable.

FJ80 and FZJ80 Landcruisers also have an 8" front diff, but it is high pinion and stronger. This is the best front diff to get for a front solid axle.

the only thing you can reuse in the front of your SAS rig is the IFS Calipers. if you plan on getting a Trail-gear SAS kit, let me know, i am a TG dealer and i can hook you up

What all does the Trail-gear kit come with? i was looking at the 5 inch front sas kit from LC Engineering as i already have 5 inches in the rear... but then again i want to consider all my options for the swap.
